A STATEWIDE SERVICE FOR YOUNGER PATIENTS WITH DEMENTIA
Dementia is a progressive disorder of memory and other aspects of thinking that usually occurs in older people, but can occur in people younger than 65. This group can struggle to obtain diagnosis and appropriate services because of their age. The Melbourne Young Onset Dementia service located at the Neuropsychiatry Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital can offer diagnostic assessment, management advice and follow up for individuals with young-onset dementia (YOD).
We have established expertise in the assessment of younger people with dementia, and provide individualised feedback for patients and families and an understanding of the genetic issues many patients and families have to face.
