The Neuropsychiatry Unit offers an interactive, individualised  mode of learning on site. The  "Professional Shadowing Day" invites professionals from the community sector working with Younger Onset Dementia to spend a day with the Neuropsychiatry team, meeting with  each discipline and attending meetings and ward rounds where applicable to observe the process of assessment, formulation and diagnosis. For further information, or to arrange a Professional Shadowing date, please contact the unit social worker JoAnne Bevilacqua on 03 93424051 or email

In supporting those diagnosed with YOD through the journey of their illness, team members have also provided person centred educational sessions for both care staff (when the person has moved to permanent or respite placement) and for community support staff. These educational sessions not only address the broader elements of dementia, but more importantly are tailored to the individual shared client, resulting in a genuine person centred session.

The MYOD team have a long standing collaboration with Alzheimer's Australia Vic in supporting their Living With Memory Loss educational series. The team provides the clinical expertise in these sessions directly. LWML YOD sessions are held regularly. Please contact Belinda Nixon at AAV for further information on 03 98157800 or at
